NT-Alice Springs

At the Heavitree Gap Tavern, Sunday night is there “roast” special. For $10.00 you have the
choice of camel, beef, lamb, pork, chicken and then a smorgasbord of baked vegetables, scalloped potatoes, beans, broccoli and a full salad bar.
They are very generous with their portions of meat and slice the meat on demand.
The hotel opens for dinner at 6:00p.m. and by 6;30 the place is packed, so get there early.
There is musical entertainment which is very enjoyable as well as a reptile show where Chris from the local reptile park brings many of his snakes and retiles for people to pet and hold. He also shares his information regarding snake bites and what to do if you are unlucky enough to be bitten by one.
We ate here three times and enjoyed ourselves tremendously each night.

Wild Saffron

The Wild Saffron became our favourite morning stop for coffee. As well as fantastic coffee and delicious food there is also a wonderful variety of gourmet foods, many of them made from local produce.
They also have a variety of magazines to read while relaxing in their stylish restaurant.

The Bentley Hotel/Motel

We came here for the special roast of the day which is only $9.90.
The interior of the hotel dining room is elegantly decorated, spacious, with a large plasma screen for those who want to watch the sports. There is also a very pleasant outdoor eating area as well.
The meal was served on a large white plate, the lamb was melt in you mouth tender, perfectly baked potato and pumpkin and firm broccoli. The gravy was generously poured on the meat.
This has been the best “cheap” roast meal that we have had. We wished that we had discovered this place earlier instead of our last night in Clare.
This is must for those of you staying in the area.

SA - Port Elliot

Flying Fish Cafe

The Flying Fish is a lovely restaurant right on the beach in the beautiful Port Elliot. One side of the building is a casual sit down and take away restaurant with some of the best fish and chips that we have had on the road. We ate there twice and each time the place was packed. If you are in the area this is a must.
The other side of the building is a dine in licensed restaurant.
